The Kingsway

This relatively small backyard was transformed into an outdoor living space that could accommodate large family gatherings while also being an intimate space for the clients.

The functionality of the space was maximized by utilizing the “dead” area behind the garage: a linear deck runs the depth of the shallow lot and “slots” in alongside the addition providing enough real estate for a small intimate lounge, a dining table, and an outdoor kitchen at the end.

The client had originally requested a combination pizza oven/fireplace for the patio, but Owen Landscape felt that it would be a better solution to separate the two; having the outdoor gas fireplace as the focal point for the lounge patio and the wood burning pizza oven as a terminus to the linear deck – it’s flames providing ambiance during dinner parties.

Overtop of the deck, an arcade of fir post and beam arches supports linear purlins; 2 way sconce light fixtures are mounted in pairs on the posts, with suspended gas heaters and ceiling fan adding to the comfort of the users.
